Womens 2011 Latest

All the latest from Arboga, Sweden.

Everybody is home and the sun is shining

The results have started to go up and the kettle has already made a round of tea.  Liz is just establishing if the kettle has boiled again...

And, the day looks a bit like it's just getting started.  Nothing like a quick romp to make pilots happy which is good as I'm sure they will all be depressed by tomorrows forecast!

Day 3 – grid photos

Day 3 (again) - rebrief and launch

Rebrief on the grid – task C – Club Class, 151km, Standard Class 173km. Club Class have launched, Standards are launching. To the south, top cover is killing the cu; top cover is also visible on the northern horizon; in between is a 5/8-cu window that looks like a reasonable day at a British Regionals... We'll keep you posted.

Day 3 (again) - what's happening

Update from briefing: "The forecast is very optimistic," announced the Met Woman cheerily, before spoiling the effect by adding: "I don't believe it". There is a soarable window moving north and shrinking, with cloudbase allegedly rising from 1,000m to 3,000m, thermals at 1 to 2 m/s, with possible spreadout. Lovely. We're on the grid, the sun has come out, and for the first time the organisation has set fallback tasks.

Club Class: 228km or 185km

Standard and 15-Metre Classes: 262km or 218km.

First launch: 12.00hrs

Saturday morning

Good morning from damp and overcast Sweden.  Hasn't rained recently but thick soggy cloud cover everywhere.  The organisation are holding out hopes still of that window of excellent conditions in the middle of the day; however our own met suggests that the Task-Setter's window will remain firmly closed...

Now this IS rocket science

Pictures from a day out for Gill, Liz, Jane and various other pilots and crew. Doubtless Liz will tell you more tomorrow.

The rain it raineth

Just as well Jane gave out the GE Oil & Gas umbrellas. Pilots and organisers kindly posed for a shot after briefing:

From Bad to Verse!

It seemed a really good idea to me,

to have an British Team Official Poet.

But I was clearly wrong and now I know it -

she heaps on pilots this foul calumny.

To set the record straight I’m moved to rhyme

Pome of the Day II

We've been told we're not posting enough pictures, so here you are:
