Team Bronze in Slovakia

Team Prize

The World Championships in Prievidza, Slovakia have come to a close. The British Team managed an excellent third place in the team prize, behind Poland and Germany.

The End...

The scores are pretty much in, I've just got out of the pool, and the party is about to begin, so that looks like the end.

What's happened? Well, G missed out on 5th place by just 2 points.  Ian didn't have a great day but managed to hold on to 14th. In the standard class, Jay just managed to climb another place to make it into the top ten, and unfortunately, Howard dropped a place to 13th.

All Back

That's it... all our guys are back. Now, we just wait for the scores.  I'd love to tell you how we all did, but as it is an AAT, we won't have a clue how anyone has done until their loggers are uploaded and analysed.

Right... I think it's time to jump in the pool!

Awaiting the Standards...

Ian and G are back. G thinks he has done about 114kph.

We're still waiting for Jay and Howard - they've gone a bit quiet on the radio.  I guess they're behind a mountain. They're in the last sector, and I guess they should be turning for home fairly soon...

Final Final Glides

Ian has just told us he's about 5 minutes out.  G is on final glide a little further back, after taking a swift 6 knots - looks like he went a little further into the sector.

Just watching Jay and Howard - looks like they split up, with Howard taking the west side of the Martin Valley and Jay taking the East.  They have about 40 minutes to run.

Clubbies Overhead

Not far to go - our club class lads have got 22 minutes to go - probably need to go into the last sector by 15-20km before turning.

The Standard Class have another 55 minutes to run.  They are currently at the north end of the Martin valley.

We've just had the first WC class finisher.

The weather still looks fantastic - clearly there is enough time for everyone to do this task twice!

All Started

Our Standard Class boys have also started now, and they're with a good bunch they wanted to be with.

In the battle for first, it looks like Kawa didn't manage to pick up the two Germans behind him (Keissling and Buchtal - also know as Mariobuchi on the German team blog - I guess that's a bit like Brangelina?), so the Germans have started a few minutes behind Kawa.  It has to be said that given that there is a 160 point gap, and today can only be about a 650 point day, they are going to have to hope for a mistake from the machine like Kawa.

Some Starts

Our Club Class guys have started, and it looks like about half of their class have too, although I see from the Dutch Team trackers (see here), it looks like one of their guys has turned back for a restart.

Not much happening with starts in the Standard Class just yet.

All Launched

All our guys are launched, and the club class start line is now open, and they've just announced the start line for the standard class will open in  30 minutes.

The sky is looking much better than forecast, at least at the moment. Howard has just commented that it looks like the best day so far, and they've only set a 2 hour assigned area!

I can see frenzied activity out the window in the campsite, with awnings being taken down.

Ritual Beatings and Newborns

Briefing has just finished. It was one of the more interesting that I've seen.  The task setter was subject to a beating for landing most people out yesterday. This involved a masked man (I say masked, he basically looked like a KKK member, but with a red hood) walking in with a drummer beating away behind him. The torture table was unveiled, and he was forced down onto it, and held in place by metal bands. A whipping ensued.
