Uvalde Final Results- An Impressive Performance all Round

Having survived the final party, I can now put a bit of flesh on the bones of what was a splendid effort by Team GB all round here in Uvalde.
In the Open Class, Pete Harvey, flying the new Antares 23, an aircraft he had no experience in and without his team partner, went from strength to strength throughout the World Championship. He was day winner on 3 occasions and was always up with the hunt, coming in 4th on the final day and 5th overall, just 77 points in 12000 off a medal. This is class flying on the World stage.

3hr AATs for all classes set in the southern sector due to unpredictable thunderstorm activity, particularly in a line moving down from the north. First launch 1240.

The low cloud is already clearing, and it will be a typical Uvalde day with cu cloudbase rising steadily in the afternoon to 8000ft agl and no sign of storms. All classes will be going north and south, finishing with long downwind final glides from the south. The Open class have a polygon of 685km, 18M 652km, 15M 618km.

Team GB was steaming today following a change of tactics. The new coaching approach coming across the Atlantic by Baldrick's crypto link has really paid off today. In the Open Class Pete Harvey finished just behind the South African pair at 139kph and 961 points for the day. He is now 5th overall, and less than 100pts off a medal, and with the Gold in sight given suitable weather. Similarly , the 18m excelled today, with Russ winning the day at 145kph, and Mike 3rd. Mike is 2nd overall, with Russ a close 4th.

 All our gliders are on their way in a blue sky, with scattered cu in the south of the task area. Our 18 m boys are with the Poles at the moment.

Open Class 572km(419-744), 18M 478km (352-611), 15M 517km (403-641). The day is likely to take some time to clear an inversion at around 3000ft agl, so an earliest launch of 1315 is planned, and best starts at around the same time as yesterday.

The Coaching tips we are getting from the gurus back in Blighty are clearly worrying the French and German Teams, they would also be of concern to the Polish Team, but they do not understand the banter, isn't it?

The 15M boys were really on fire today, proving that Team GB has strength in depth, with Ed coming first and Matt 4th for the day. In the 18M , our pair consolidated their position near the top, and Pete is very much up with the hunt in the Open class.

All our boys are well en route, and the sky looks very good to the east, but the predicted cirrus is steadily impinging from the south west, reducing climb rates, and will possibly cause an earlier thermal cut off this evening.
