2009 Women's World Championships, Szeged, Hungary

Final Final from Hungary

After several hours waiting for results the final results are now in and everyone is scored and it seems the speed points in the Club class are enough to push Ayala into fourth place. She flew extremely well in her first World Championships leading for most of the competition.

Now our Attention must turn to 2011 in Sweden.

womens Worlds dissapointment but happy to have been here.

After ten days of exciting and close competition flying it is finally over, it took a nailbiting couple of hours for the results to be issued and it was not what we had hoped for.

In the club class Ayala lost her lead and ended up third overall, congratulations to Ayala on winning a podium place in her first World Championships, LIz ended up in 5th and Rose in 6th place.

final from Hungary

What a cliff hanger. All the top places changed today but what do you expect with an area task on a showery day.

In the club class Ayala ended up third overall with LIz in 5th and Rose in 6th place.

In the standard Gill snook into 4th place after a good day and a cheeky early start Kay ended up 7th and Hannah proved her strength by holding up the whole stack.

As always it is the ones who are at the top when the music stops, trouble is predicting when it will stop.

Womens - The tension is killing us

The scoring system seems to have broken just as we are waiting to find out if Ayala has won the club class. We know it is going to be very close - we are tearing out hair out waiting for the results

womens last day

Everybody home, now we wait to see what happened. The Clubbies started about in the pack which we hope turned out well, Gill and Rose to the early start option and came home first in their classes. Kay and Hannah took the late start option and came home just over time.

Lots of gliders not home yet so who knows how it will all pan out.

Womens - Update

Gill and Rose have both called on final glide. The others are not far away, but there are some big showers around. So it's not necessarily going to be easy. Nail biting stuff.

Womens - Launch

Everyone is away after a 15 minute launch delay. Club class start line is open and the standards still have 5 minutes to wait. Conditions seem fairly weak - but building. There are a few towering cumulus, but we can't see any showers as yet.

Ayala and Liz (lying first and second overall in the club class) relax and chat to Brian just before the launch.

Womens - Friday tasks

Tasks today are three hour AAT's for both the club and standard classes. First launch is 11:30 (or ten and a half of your English hours.) Weather looks a bit showery.

Womens - Final morning

Morning, all, sunny in Hungary again - some scuddy cloud kicked up after the dampness of yesterday but  we're hoping for a racing day to complete the comp.  More later!

Women's - usual weather resumes

I am vindicated in packing wellies after all.  The pic shows the view from Camp GB to Hungary who, during the setting up of camps, hotly contested what turned out to be the lower ground - Lake Balaton II as you can see got to around 8" deep in their tents.  The poor dears now have all their mattresses and sleeping bags hung out to dry in the sun and are gingerly going round switching the various electrics back on.
