Juniors 17/08/2011- Everyone home

Yesterday the Club class were launched on a 235K and Standards on a 237K racing task. The gris was launched early into a developing sky with Andy managing to climb above cloudbase in shear wave making up 15minites on the first leg. In the standards Tom and Will started at the same time with Oli 15 minites after.

In the end the all the guys finished and currently are mid field in the provisional results.

The last two days look challenging with some instability ahead of the approaching fronts.

Day 4 (well nearly for the Standard class!)

Yesterday the grid launched into what was some really challenging conditions. The sky was cycling quickly with shear wave setting up overhead and there was a threat of showers in the late afternoon. The task for the Club class was 240k and the Standard class had a 2 hour AAT. The club started first with Matt and Andy starting together and Luke starting 15minites later. Unfortunately because of the tricky conditions Matt and Andy landed out as they were caught off cycle. Luke made it a bit further but was washed out of the sky near the first turn.

Musbach Day 2 - The Met Man Strikes Back

12/08 - Day 2 dawned (finally) with the Met Man (Bernd) issuing a "fatwa" against a certain member of the British Team crew for alleged dealings with his daughters. The shotgun was mentioned but thankfully it was all a massive missunderstanding (probably).

So, we flew and it was pretty hard work for all concerned. The Club Class had a 2.5hr AAT to the south and then up to the east, with the Standards having a 2hr with the same 1st sector and a similar eastern 2nd sector.

Musbach Day 1

Eventually some flyable weather. The met man promised 1900m cloudbase with good thermals eventually turning blue (which is exactly what it did). The club class were tasked 270k racing task and the Standard class 320k racing task. The club class started first and called climbs of around 7kts avarage. The standard class started later as the launch rate was slow with 2 tugs going U/S during the launch.  The sky looked great early on and the radio sounded out with screaming varios. The sky eventually went blue and the air began to cool.

Just a quick updated entry with a British Team photo from the opening ceremony:

Musbach - Day 0 - Still no flying......(except for the team gazebo!)

Firstly - apologies for the lack of updates so far but the internet access has been pretty sketchy to say the least!

Two days down and still no flying here at Musbach unfortunately. Yesterday was scrubbed after the Club Class were tasked but not launched in the end.

Today we set a new rig - grid - water - derig record of 1hr45 for the whole team (not bad considering no cars allowed on the airfield!). The wind was gusting 30 - 40kts and with an impending storm approaching the speed-derig ensued.

(Juniors) Finish

Well Im sad to say that the comp has finished Germany have a world champion in both classes. Well done to them. The final results for the boys were Club Class Mike 23rd, Will 24th, Shaun 31st. (Juniors) Day9

Yesterday was a rest day as it was raining. The guys went Karting with the other nations. Then later Stu forgot he was driving his car (not the Kart) and ran that off the road, no damage done just his pride and lots of photos taken.

A cold front passed yesterday so the final day promise to be a good one. Everyone on the grid, ready.

(Juniors) Day 8 result (Sack the met man)

We had a change of met man at the beginning of the week and the weather has done exactly the opposite than prodicted. The blue was nice cu and the day was shorter than predicted. Anyway Tom got round and is currently 2nd for the day well done Tom. Mike is 17th for the day and 23rd overall. Tomorrow's weather is anyone's guess with a cold front lying over us. Singstar tonight, Ali has been warming his vocal chords up all day with sayings from the Yorkshire dictionary and should become fluent by the end of the comp.

(Juniors) Day 8

Yesterday was a good competition day with a 2.5hr AAT for both classes. Start times were critical and the crew on the ground could see a great view of both club and Standard gaggles before the start trying to get someone to go first. Will placed 14th yesterday leaving him 16th overall, hopefully we can get him in the top 10 before the close of comp. Tom placed 27 yesterday leaving him 23rd overall. The remaining 3 day promise to be good days although blue with high cover.
