We have finally arrived at the end of the last competition day.

Thirteen days of great weather and flying for the 80 or so competitors and the fantastic organisation who have made the European Gliding Championships 2009 at Pociunai probably the most sucessful international competition of all time.

The entire British team here feel honoured and privileged to have participated in this incredible event

Final Final from Hungary

After several hours waiting for results the final results are now in and everyone is scored and it seems the speed points in the Club class are enough to push Ayala into fourth place. She flew extremely well in her first World Championships leading for most of the competition.

Now our Attention must turn to 2011 in Sweden.

womens Worlds dissapointment but happy to have been here.

After ten days of exciting and close competition flying it is finally over, it took a nailbiting couple of hours for the results to be issued and it was not what we had hoped for.

In the club class Ayala lost her lead and ended up third overall, congratulations to Ayala on winning a podium place in her first World Championships, LIz ended up in 5th and Rose in 6th place.

British Girls win both their classes

Day 6 the 31st of July was a good day for the Brtish Womens team when they took line honours in both the Club and Standard classes. A fantastic day which started late and finished in thunderstorms allowed Liz Sparrow to to achieve 113kph to win the Club Class and Gill Spreckley achieved 118kph to win the standard class. Ayala was second in the Club keeping her overall lead and Rose Johnson was third giving us a clean sweep in the Club class. We are still awaiitng the resuls for Kay and Hannah.

Lusse World Championships

Phil Jones - defending 18 metre championThe Brits have arrived in Lusse, near Berlin in Germany, for the practice period for the 2008 World Championships in the flapped classes.

Phil Jones flies in the 18 metre class, hoping to defend the title he won two years ago in Sweden. Pete Harvey, in the open class, will be looking to upgrade the European title he has won twice in a row to the World title.

Rieti World Championships Close

The 2008 World Championships in Rieti have now come to an end. The Brits put in some good efforts in a tough environment, perhaps better suited to more specialist mountain pilots.

The Standard Class was won by German, Michael Buchtal and the Club Class by German, Matthias Sturm. Worthy winners they were too! In the Standards, the Brits were 10th, 11th and 17th, and in the Club class, 10th, 18th and 31st, with G in particular perhaps unlucky not to be challenging for a medal after 2 day wins and an unfortunate landout.
